چکیده

A method is described for phenotyping of isoniazid inactivators. After a test dose of isoniazid, free isoniazid and its acetyl derivative are estimated in urine by the same colorimetric reaction.

Mass phenotyping of isoniazid inactivators by automated determination of acetylisoniazid in urine.

It is established that in treatment of tuberculosis, slow inactivators of isoniazid are more prone to side effects from the drug (1-3), whereas fast inactivators respond less favorably to marginal chemotherapy in which this drug is administered intermittently or for a limited period (4-8). Therefore, phenotyping of patients for isoniazid inactivation became important in the initiation of long-t...

Rate of inactivation of isoniazid in South Indian patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Since isoniazid is metabolized in man to several derivatives with little or no specific activity against the tubercle bacillus, its rate of inactivation in the body may have an important bearing on its efficacy as an antituberculosis drug. The inactivation rate, though constant in any one person, is known to vary from individual to individual and from race to race. A series of studies on the ra...

Sulphadimidine acetylation test for classification of patients as slow or rapid inactivators of isoniazid.

Sulphadimidine acetylation studies were undertaken in 103 patients, 52 of whom had been classified as slow and 51 as rapid inactivators of isoniazid by a standard microbiological assay method. Each patient received sulphadimidine by mouth in a dose of 44 mg./kg. body weight, and free and total sulphadimidine were estimated in blood and urine collected at six hours. The findings suggest that pat...

Levels of acetyl hydrazines and rate of acetylation of isoniazid in adult tuberculosis patients.

Patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis were investigated for the levels of isoniazid (INH) and its metabolites viz. acetyl-INH, mono and diacetyl hydrazines and ammonia. It was observed that 50% of the patients are slow inactivators of INH and almost all show an increase in circulating levels of NH3 at 6 hrs. Mono and diacetyl hydrazine levels in blood and urine were detectable in all t...
